NYRewind: 1/25 The Daily Show w/ Jon Stewart

On Monday, I joined Karrie G. @ The Daily Show w/ Jon Stewart!  The special guest was Bill Gates, who did not give away any cars (haha), but he talked about his foundation and focus on fighting global poverty and malaria.  Jon was super funny as well.  Another great NY event: )

woo-hoo!  Check out the full episode here: http://www.thedailyshow.com/

NYRewind: 1/16 The Engadget Show

A bit overdue, but check out Greg R. and I's adventure to The Engadget Show!  This is Engadget.com's webcast show that features the latest in technology.  This was a free event, and Greg and I both entered and got a guaranteed seat from Sprint.  It was a great event!

This show featured Eric Tsang from Google, chatting (and giving away) the Nexus 1 phone!  Funny guys!

The Engadget team also showed some of the latest from the Consumer Electronic Show (CES), including the tablet that everyone has been buzzing about today AND a cool flying device that can be controlled with an iPhone.

We didn't win the phone unfortunately, but we enjoyed the interview and seeing some cool things to look forward to in 2010.  Thanks to Greg for the heads up!

Check out the full show here (you can see us in the audience: )! http://www.engadget.com/20

Happy MLK Day!!

I would SO go to this event tomorrow...and if I can wake up super early I just may still do it...but it's in Brooklyn...haha.  Danny Glover is speaking and showing his new film too!

No matter what happens - enjoy the day off and take a second to be thankful for those that had the courage to fight against injustice and also remember those in Haiti who may still be trapped or need help.  Let's make MLK proud.

24th Annual Brooklyn Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Part of the 24th Annual Brooklyn Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Mon, Jan 18 at 10:30am
BAM Howard Gilman Opera House
Free! First come, first seated. One ticket per person.

BAM, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, and Medgar Evers College of The City University of New York present New York City’s largest public celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This year, BAM welcomes keynote speaker Danny Glover, the acclaimed actor, director, producer, and humanitarian. In addition to his considerable time on stage and screen, Glover has gained respect for his wide-reaching community activism and philanthropic efforts, and has received numerous prestigious honors, including the 2002 Marian Anderson Award, the 2003 NAACP Chairman’s Award, the 2004 BET Lifetime Achievement Award, and the 2009 CBCF Phoenix Award. Glover is also a UNICEF Ambassador and Chairman of the Board of TransAfrica Forum, a non-profit global justice organization focusing on issues facing African Americans and peoples in Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

Musical performances by The New Life Tabernacle Mass Choir and special guest Kenny Muhammad The Human Orchestra, who is widely regarded as one of the best beatboxers in the world, round out the program.

Following the event in the Opera House, BAM Rose Cinemas will present a free screening of the acclaimed documentary Soundtrack for a Revolution, executive produced by Danny Glover and shortlisted for a 2010 Oscar nomination.

NYChar Lunch 1/17 - $1 Tacos!

Woo-hoo, let's make some lunch plans!  How do $1 tacos (normally $12!) at Mayahuel sound?  I don't know, but it's a delicious deal!  The restaurant doesn't take reservations or parties larger than 8, so we can try our luck and hope there isn't a line.  Who's in??: )

From UrbanDaddy.com's Weekender post:

Dollar Menu

$1 Tacos at Mayahuel

Sundays - 304 E Sixth St (at Second Ave) - 212-253-5888

The East Village tequila den inaugurates $1 taco Sundays by practically giving away chicken, pork or chorizo soft tacos topped with cilantro, radishes and lime, which usually cost 12 bucks. It's the most encouraging instance of taco-based reverse inflation we've yet come across.
